26 th of July (Kargil Vijay Diwas 2023)

 Every year on July 26, the entire nation observes Kargil Vijay Diwas. Today is a day of celebration for India's victory over Pakistan in the 1999 Kargil War. We honour and commemorate the bravery and sacrifice of our warriors during the war on this day. Operation Vijay is the name of the military operation carried out during this period.

We celebrate 24th anniversary of Kargil vijay diwas in this year. In the Kargil district of Jammu and Kashmir (now a part of Ladakh Union Territory), Pakistani forces broke into Indian territory and started the Kargil war. 1999's battle raged from May to July.

May 3, 1999"Operation Vijay."

After learning of the first incursion by neighbourhood shepherds on May 3, 1999, the Indian Army began "Operation Vijay." This operation's goal was to retake the Indian area along the Line of Control (LoC) that Pakistani infiltrators had taken control of. In support of the Indian Army on May 26, the Indian Air Force carried out airstrikes as part of "Operation Safed Sagar.

Finally, on July 26, 1999, the Indian Army proclaimed Operation Vijay a success after retaking all the military positions in Kargil that had previously been held by Pakistani infiltrators.

Detailed History of Kargil War:--

After the 1971 war, India and Pakistan had tense relations,🤝 but neighboring✌ countries had avoided military conflict until the Kargil War. However, during the 1990s, tensions and conflicts escalated due to separatist activities and other incidents in Kashmir, which worsened the situation.

In February 1999, both sides signed the Lahore Declaration, promising peaceful and bilateral solutions to all issues, including Kashmir.

However, in the winters of 1998-1999, elements of the Pakistani armed forces sent soldiers and militants across the Line of Control (LoC) into Indian territory. This operation was called 'Operation Badri' and aimed to weaken India's military position in the region and disrupt relations between Kashmir and Ladakh. Later, it was revealed that Pakistan's actions were a premeditated attack on India.

Response of india:-

In response, India launched 'Operation Safed Sagar' in May, using air power during the Kargil War. Indian Air Force, along with the Army, conducted joint actions to evict Pakistani intruders. The Indian Navy also played a strategic role in Operation Talwar, increasing pressure on Pakistan. The Navy conducted aggressive reconnaissance on Pakistani shores during the conflict.

After a prolonged battle, the Kargil War finally concluded on July 26. Indian soldiers drove out the Pakistani intruders from their occupied positions, and this victory is celebrated as Kargil Vijay Diwas.

Every year on July 26, the Prime Minister pays tribute to the martyred soldiers who lost their lives during the war.

Soldiers like Captain Manoj Kumar Pandey, Captain Vikram Batra, and Captain Keshav Kunal Nongrum, who sacrificed their lives to secure the Kargil peaks, were honored with the Param Vir Chakra and Mahavir Chakra posthumously.

• Kargil Vijay Diwas is a significant holiday because it celebrates the courage and valour of our armed services and remembers those who gave their lives in defence of their country. 
• To honour and commemorate the Kargil War heroes, several events are held around the nation. 
• The primary commemoration is often held at the Kargil War Memorial in Dras, Ladakh, although additional celebrations include parades, cultural performances, and military band performances.
